How the fook can it be 15mm out??

If you haven't removed at least one torsion bar to set the height properly, then you still haven't got it right

Thats how it arrived to me.

Took the bars out to level it up and to get the drop I wanted.

Bit more spam incoming. Booked myself on a last minute trackday at Blyton to get the bug back so meant I had to finish getting the track wheels sorted pretty sharpish after the best part of several years being half stripped....

So finished stripping/sanding them back, primed, dark metallic grey, lacquered, new centre caps and decals. Wrapped in some Nakang NS2R track tyres.

While I had the rattle cans out, decided to sort out the tailgate from being de-locked that had seen better days from being stood on the drive for so long etc

Not a bad rattle can fix although not a perfect match. I really need to give the compressor a go and do a proper job with things like this. Time to treat myself to a proper spray gun and get brave

Finally gave the car a good once over, check of all the fluids etc. and sorted the brakes for track time.

Replaced the DS2500 (use these for the road) with some DS3000 pads and fitted some standard Pagid Discs (the DS3000 are hard on discs so didnt want to destroy the Tarox which are 10x the cost of the Pagid - so the tarox are left for the road with the 2500 pads)

Still not got the oil temp working and still questioning the water temp as it only got to 80C even after several laps on the limit.

And fitted a sunstrip as its that time of the year with low sun etc.

Finally got my trackday in at Blyton - Had a steady morning as after 10 years of not seeing a proper track I wanted to make sure the rallye and me were up to it. Soon got back into it and by the afternoon was back pushing the limits again.

Car held up great. Definitely got the bug back and looking to book something again in the new year. Need to replace the creaking steering rack and damaged front subframe.

Believe it or not, was the 1st time of using track tyres as I've always tended to run Michelin sports as I can pick up a set of ex ginetta tyres for £100 a set, the difference was night and day, really surprised me tbh.

Anyhow, few shots from the trackday. Even Maggie (my trusty LaCool got a ride in the rallye as she stayed with a friend for the day while I was out....

bit of an update

Recently got myself a fresh steering rack and front subframe after the current one took a decent hit. The rack had a really bad "creak" that I couldnt get to the bottom of and the subframe was out of shape meaning the exhaust would vibrate on it on full chat.

So decided to clean up the replacement subframe, seam weld it, treat it and paint it.

Gave the replacement rack a clean up, paint and fresh TRE etc.

Cleaned up and painted the bottom arms and replaced the roller bearings and inserts for the RB bushes.

Also came across a little rust spot where the subframe mounts so that got cut out and welded up/ treated and painted.

While I was at it I gave the sumpguard a fresh paint.

Fitted Baker BM Group N gearbox Mount and Group A Fork Bush as they were the only ones left to upgrade now

Also got a fresh set of track tyres while they were on a deal in the Jan sales for once my current ones have died.

Next trackday is Anglesey on 19th Feb, then got an evening event at 3 sisters 2nd March then 24th April at Blyton for the Performance French Car trackday.

Got the wheel alignment sorted Saturday so should all be good to go now, probably just give the brakes a fresh lot of fluid but may be a tart and give the brakes a paint yet.

Nice update.

I'll be at Blyton on the 24th albeit not on track in mine. I'll hopefully be passengering with some mates but I'll probably take my diablo '6 to stick in the parking area as it's looking pretty mint after a recent respray. I'll come over and say hi at some point Thumbs up

Thanks. Mines in need of the bodywork sorting but figured a year of giving it beans on track again first will be time best spent then I'll look to give it a respray.

Hit a massive rock in the road, couldn't avoid it. Lucky I had the sumpguard as that did its job.

Decided to be a bit of a tart and give the brakes a cleanup and paint. Calipers werent in bad nick as refurbished 2 years ago so seals etc all good, just wanted a good clean up, removed the sliders and a smear of copper slip etc. Figured Id do the rear carriers to match as I had a couple of sets spare

Rears wire brushed right back to clean metal and rust treated.

The G88 discs are for the road, too expensive (10X the cost of the standard discs I used for track) to ruin them on track as the DS3000 pads I use are pretty harsh on discs. I just accept the squealing on track Smile

Come to swap the rear carriers and whats with the peugeot 5 sided bolts!!!!!! (The beam/axle was a refurbed beam I bought last year to get the rallye back on the road so 1st time of removing these carriers) Couple of old sockets and big hammer to finally remove them, normal bolts back in

Rears done to complete the "tartiness"

I'll try and get out for a bit of a blast in it next week just to make sure everything is feeling ok ahead of my next trackday at Anglesey in 2 weeks time.

Finally got hold of the right clocks/dials so now I can keep and eye on oil temps again.

Also fitted a working stereo so I can try and drown out the noise while driving to and from trackdays haha. Not very "trackcar/racecar" but there you go. Nice old school Ipod compatible Kenwood I've had sat in a box for 15 years.

And I've also gone a picked up yet another set of wheels, some more Comp2's but in 16s now. Think I'll paint these up white to use on the road. But looking at the stack of wheels and tyres now it looks like I may have issues haha

Took the motor out for a B road thrash last night to check everything felt ok after all the work I'd done on it. Few small tweaks needed but should be good for Anglesey next weekend now.

Far from the levels of engineering and effort you've put into your motor LOL

But its good to be having fun in it again. Although looking at the forecast for Anglesey, I think its going to be the road wheels and tyres as its weather warnings and very wet....

Well with the current storm and forecast heavy rain/sleet and snow forecast for tomorrow at Anglesey Circuit, I've played it safe and swapped to my road wheels and tyres. Still thrown the track wheels and semi slicks in the back, if there isnt too much standing water, I may put my big boy pants on and try them later in the day so I get an idea for future days if its wet etc.

Given the car a once over, checked levels/pressures etc, rain x and anti fog the windscreen/front glass as figured it may help.

Early start for the 2.5hr plus drive down, at least I'll have a radio to listen too this time and drown out some of the rattles and road noise Smile

Does look good on these speedlines tho.

You mean spending stupid money on a £1k-£2k car i cant see me driving for another 14months….its now a obsession project Crazy

Ben ive been where you are and i had the most fun with a standard Engine 8 injectors and a uprated ECU and loom and uprated brakes and suspension / wheels Thumbs up

Sadly mines turned into a garage project and im enjoying working on it more than driving it ( not good )

Only good thing ?….Its kept me sane through Covid and Skint

Love the updates and especially the great pics A credit to you Ben

Few shots from Saturday. Was a very wet and windy day but the rallye didnt seem to mind it and was a bit of a "leveller" in terms of a lot of the more high powered modern stuff there.
