Hi,

My radiator has a leak and the AA has told me to replace it.

I am replacing it tonight but need to get my car to the garage. I was told by a friend I can use some sort of putty to stop the radiator leaking while I drive it there.
It doesn't take long while driving for the engine to overheat due to loss of coolant.
I am going to use Magic Bond Epoxy Stick.

Will this hold the leak for a 20-30 minute town drive (traffic etc)?

Thanks.

Probably safer to toe it than risk damaging the engine, remember if there is no coolant in the system you won't get a correct reading from the temp sensors, fand won't possibly come on either.

Radweld and carry LOTS of water. Would the AA not take it home?

Well I used the epoxy putty on the hole.
The hole was at the top of the radiator.
It wasn't visible but you could see water spraying out near the top of the radiator whenever you squeezed the top pipe.

I formed the putty around the hole and let it set for an hour, my car drove to the garage like it didn't even have a problem!
Temp guage moved up a little but never went over about 70

Rad weld is a real no no, just think about what it does and where else it might end up!

Indeed - you should see what it does in quantity to wet-lined engines. I have used very small amounts to keep the matrix going for a couple of extra years, but always better to fix the leak.

Speaking of which i've got a couple to do myself Sad
