Hi all my heater control bulbs have decided they no longer want to work anymore even with the bash on the side of the centre console lol

Ive read through the thread about removing them and replacing them and understand that il have to buy bulb holders and bulbs as the ones that are there are soldered onto the board

Does this mean when ive purchased the holders and bulbs il have to resolder them back onto the board or is it a case of push and clip in???

Never soldered before and dont really want to either lol

Thanks in advance

try hitting the centre console first. That more often than not works if a lot of the bulbs break. Don't hit it hard enough do damage it or yourself though.

You shouldn't have to do any soldering. You should be able to get away with just replacing the little glass parts as opposed to the bulbs/holders.

Haha i have been hitting it for about 5 weeks now every now and again when it stops working it normally sorts it out but not this time its decided to stop working altogether now!!!

I read that the bulbs where soldered onto the board so couldnt just replace bulbs had to buy bulb holders and bulbs how do these fit onto the board if no soldering is required?? Sorry for being thick lol

These are the ones that are one complete unit.

with the rest of the bulbs the little glass insert should pull out

just a standard small capless bulb, about 1.2w IIRC, peugeot can supply them if you don't find them anywhere else.

286 is the code IIRC.

The first ones are only 50p each. That is quite cheap. (depends on postage)

I just went to my local motor factors and they had them in stock.

They are a complete unit as opposed to the little glass lamp and the holder.

Ignore that this one doesn't have a bulb I was experimenting with cutting the bulbs out.

Most motorfactors should stock them

Finally completed it i now have lights on my heater controls easy to do just a pain to find the parts!!!

I couldnt take bulbs out of the holder as they were soldered to it!!!

Then i went to Camberley Auto Factors they didnt stock the part (they havnt seen a 286 holder with connections on the back)!! I then went to Euro Car Parts they had the same excuse!!! Finally i went to PUG they havnt seen them in years but had a similar holder in which the bulb just twists and locks in but wanted

ahhh I didnt realise the A/C control box was that much different, it has bulbs inside it like pictured instead of just two plugged in from the back then?

Yes there exactly the same if you look at them on the board but when you remove the holder on the A/C version the wire prongs are soldered onto the connections so have to replace the holder and bulbs rather than just the bulbs itself

Altho you can get a similar holder from PUG which the bulb simply twists and locks in there abit expensive tho

A helpful FAQ wrote:
For these you need to buy the bulb holders, as the bulb is soldered into the holder.

So you can not just pull out and replace with the cheap bulb only approach.

The part number for these holders is 6112 54 and cost

I've changed these on my aircon HDi when one blew, mine weren't soldered to the box you just twisted with a pair of pliers through 90 degrees and out they came in the same manner as a regular twistlok bulb.

I have about 6 spares in my bulbs box lol.

Newer 306's have the simple twist and lock bulb approach whereas older (pre 98 as i was told by parts manager at PUG) have the bulbs soldered into the holder

If you have the older type (solder version) you can get the new style from PUG which is alot easier to change when a bulb blows!
