but this time 16v instead of 8v, and 306 instead of 309

bought for not a lot, with 11 months test, but snapped cambelt Sad

first thing to do was remove the head

as far as i can see, there is no severe indentations to the piston crowns, but i think there is about 8valves bent

when i get some money together, i'll be in touch with carl from mechanical repairs

picked this up today

my way of thinking is that it would cost twice as much to rebuild the original top end. so i found this engine with box, loom, ecu and ignition, for a really good price. a known good quiet runner, which as an added bonus has had new waterpump and cambelt kit fitted

all being well, i should get the car running before xmas

i've come across my first problem

i bought a tensioner kit from a forum member, which is supposed to be from a rallye

anyway, while i'm swapping engines i decided to do away with the original air con set up from the gti6, hence fitting rallye parts

what am i doing wrong?????

also. i need a new rad, but i've just been checking service box and there is a different part number for gti6 (133050) and rallye (133049)

wot is the difference? as i've found a new rallye one cheap, but don't want to buy just in case it's wrong

thanks

the belt seems too short, and i'm not sure of the correct fitting of the belt

cheers

i think the difference is because the gti6 air con ,which is why the belt is long. as for fitting the belt.
belt fitting, am not 100% sure
1)power steering
2)round the alternator
3)then over the tensioner
4)round the bottom pulley
5)then under the top tensioner

Thought you'd be well and truly on here Andy Razz It's coming on well Smile If your other cars are anything to go by this will be a near minter when you've worked your magic and will make for a pretty special "run about".

(Brian off 309oc btw)

nothing ever is simple, No

the first full nice day we've had, and my plan was to fit the replacement engine in my 6

i like to think ' if a jobs worth doing, do it right! '

so this is what happened instead

well after removing the headlights and front bumper (to make it easier for replacement engine to be fitted), i found a bit of rust. mainly on power steering loop pipework and bits around the bay.

all cleaned up and treated with kurust Big grin

then i decided to remove the air con pipework and re-route the o/s/f brake pipe properly (god i hate when people make a hash of things!)

Thumbs down Angry

back in work tomorrow, but my plan now is to paint the rusty bits, and then power-wash the engine bay, and also do the replacement engine and box Thumbs up

i'm looking forward to getting this car sorted Smug

Andy, looking good mate. Is it gonna end up like the black beauty in the garage? That brake pipe looks a lot better the way its routed now than before!! Did you manage to sort a bulkhead heat shield out?

sorry it's been a while Blush

made good progress in the last couple of days, even though today was a little wet Razz

yesterday, i jet washed the engine bay, along with the engine and box that is going in

and even managed to fit the engine aswell

today was a case of connecting a few things. fitted new seals to gearbox where driveshafts go, new n/s balljoint fitted, and had to lengthen a piece of the loom slightly

next to do, is fit another sump, fit the rad, fill with engine oil, gearbox oil, and coolant and hopefully have the car running within the next week
