an oil filter became blocked on a gti6?? any help would be greatly appreciated Smile

i think there is a valve in the filter that lets the oil circulate if the filter gets blocked
i have been wrong before tho Sad

like an overpressure valve type thingymabob? LOL does anybody think the valve would make much of a noise?

^^^ depends what quality oil filter you have on the engine. IIRC the cheaper brands don't have bypass valves.

i don't know anything about what kind of noises that would be heard, but i hope i helped!

the cars been off the road for the last 6 months....i have more than an issue with the oil LOL ta for the input though....its meant to be going to a new owner on the weekend and i just dont think i can let it go Sad if it gets fixed before then, im keeping it LOL

yeah good plan! i would say that anything that could become a serious issue would have my attention. have you thought about taking the filter off and flushing it with some fresh oil and replacing it? cant do any harm and woulf rule it out with out spending any cash.

I doubt very much that an oil filter would get blocked, the bottom end would be making very bad noises before that would happen.

will get my bro on to it asap Smile we thought the timing had slipped originally but my brother keeps getting little ideas that its something else now Dry its idles normally, then as we rev it it has a nasty top end rattle Wink

not since ive had it....it hasnt got its original engine though, has been written off twice & is generally a bit of a shitbox, I just cant stop loving it! We bought it smashed in 2007 and rebuilt it, I think thats why. The noise only started after we replaced the auxiliary belt & tensioner & idler (all genuine pug parts) Wink

and what does the noise sound like? and can you tell if its coming from the head or the aux belt area?

Have you tried running the engine with the auxiliary belt removed so see if it goes away?
