Need some help if possible please lads.

Am about to break my Phase 3 HDI.

Now I want to keep the ECU unlocked so if I sell the engine complete then no one will have a problem with installing it.

Can someone tell me the way to do it properly.

Do I have to dis-connect the ECU
Do I have to do anything with the keys for the immobiliser
Apart from the engine/loom/ECU...should I keep anything else to go with it to keep it in it's unlocked state

Any help appreciated as I want to do it correctly, thanks

turn ignition on, unplug immobiliser box or ecu, or disconnect the battery.

though as long as you keep all the bits together it doesn't matter one bit what you do Smile

(Key chip, immobiliser box, ecu)

Mei, where is the immobiliser box ?

Unplugging the ECU seems the easiest option

yeah, unplugging ecu is a doddle, I think the immobiliser box is with the Airbag ecu under the middle of the dash, you remove the front part of the centre console to get at it, though i've not had the dash apart on anything older than a Preg P1 diesel so far!

Ok, well the dash will be coming out at some point so will have to get it out then.

Anyone know exactly where it is and how to get it out ?

To do it properly, you should cut the pins which correspond to the immobiliser inside the ECU.

It will lock itself again as soon as you plug it into another car - unless you change ALL associated componments, as Welshpug mentioned.

If things are behind the dash, and difficult to get out, I would just cut the pins in the ECU.

Rich, the car is being broken so I can take everything out.

However, can you drop me a PM detailing exactly what to do, thanks

Yeah, but would a prospective buying want to take their car to pieces to install your immobiliser control module?

I can't really say any more than what i've said. I don't know which pins you would need to cut - you would have to look in Haynes or Autodata.

I've only done it to Marelli ECU's before - yours will be different.

What about if the engine was used in place of one that just died, say just the engine itself was switched, would it run ? Using original loom, immob, ecu but just a donor engine ?

Yeah it would run assuming the engines are identical.

The way i do it is cut the wires 820,821,822 on the small engine loom plug on the passenger inner wing after the ecu has been removed with the engine running

So start the engine, unplug the ECU then turn the engine off.

Then cut wires 820, 821 + 822 ?

Whereabouts exactly is the best place to cut them and are they clearly visibly numbered ?

You only want to cut 820 and 821.

822 is a switched-earth to the multi-function relay.

Cut that and you'll have no power to your fuel pump.
