NOT amused, came home from work last night, gave it a bit of a squirt heading down towards the junction leading onto my estate and when i came off the throttle i noticed a tapping nose over the sound of the engine.

It's only really apparent at about 2800rpm, VERY slight tap below this and lost in the noise of the engine/exhaust above 2800.

Done a bit of a search and will check things like plugs etc later, couldn't last night due to the darkness and a lack of tools at home.

Any other ideas while im on chaps? (& chap-esses?)

Remember the injectors can make a tapping noise. Also check for low oil.

I can't see it being a bent valve unless your cambelt has slipped slighty. When was it last changed?

I can almost imagine the faces as people read this...
I don't know!! I asked the previous owner when i bought it, when it was last done, he didn't know either. (bought it early sept)
It was top of my to do list on payday this month anyway (as seems to be the case when s**t like this happens) Put it off in favour of a CAT last month. Wish i hadn't now. Angry

When you say the injectors can tap, what do you atually mean mate? Is it ok for them to tap? Can it be stopped? I've read that the 'tapping' is supposed to get louder when the engine revs but like i say, mine kind of gets lost in the rest of the engine noise above 3k

if it wasn't tapping and the cam belt hasn't gone then it won't be the normal reason for a tapper so as said most likely to be a loose plug or some other reason

Its more of a ticking noise from the injectors.

If it was a bent valve, the speed of the tap would increase with the rev's of the engine.

Loose plugs can cause this as it happened with my last one. Hope this is the case for you.

Mine started to tap one morning when I started her. You could here it over the injectors and speeded up with the revs. I knew it could'nt of been the cambelt as it was fine the day before but the thought of it still scared me!. I put it down to a sticky tappet as after a long drive the noise went.
