My XSi 2.0 16V Phase 2 has a really heavy clutch.

Well I think that's what you call it.
It's really stiff and hard to push down.
It is driveable and I have managed with it for the last few months but it is time to do something about it.

As I can't feel the "bite", it's hard to judge the gear change at low gears, meaning gear changing is slower and not as smooth. Heavy clutch also tires out my leg!

What could be causing this? Cable?

Also, when pulling off in first gear, as I'm at the bite and giving it gas, the car rumbles a lot. It's like some sort of clutch plate rubbing or something.

I don't know the tech words for the clutch so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I think you need to:

a. search - its been covered many times
b. put it in the right section
c. change the cable to see what difference it makes
d. describe the 'rumbling' sound a bit better
e. be prepared to change the clutch as the bearing could be on its way out

HTHThumbs up

Fair enough.
Its not that hard, but not that easy either (easier for you though with a 5 speeder). If you are worried about doing the cable then taking the gearbox off is a few steps further up. Best to have a friend with you to do the cable - the FAQ is good.

Some forum guys might be able to help you out - Stilly or Miles are probably closest. Might be worth asking Welshpug as he is down that way quite a bit. Clutches are around the
