hi, ive received my billy b8`s from miles today and have a few questions about fitting them, some are obvious, id just like to clear things up.

first of all this plastic cover over the top and bottom coils is there to stay on? right?

then do i use the dustcovers from my old legs?
the old legs have a notch in them for the dustcover to sit here:

but the billys dont have this slot.

my dustcover has a slight tear on it:

should i replace it then, does anybody have the part number for them?

when offering the eibach spring to the billys, it doesnt seem to sit square at all

is it ment to be like this:

and wil straighten itself out when i put them together?

hi, thanks welsh.
how do i know if its applicable to fit the bumpstops? i was going to as there was the other thread recent about the bumpstop.
my concern was the angle of the springs in the leg lol.

You need the bumpstop on those - hence the small shaft.

dust covers definately. my old ones didnt have dust covers on and had collected quite a bit of crap and i think that was what caused them to leak.

stick the stops on as well. as phil says they have a smaller shaft so an extra stop wont hurt.
although billies apparently have built in ones.

the springs will sit like that. get the compressors on the springs and they should sit a little straighter in the cup. i thought they were broken when i fitted mine. should give you just enough to fit the top mount on. then wind the nut on. easy when you know how. took me a few hours to get it right the 1st time.

I'm just about to fit the same setup, coincidentally I was just about to post a thread asking similar questions.

The part number for the dust boot's is - 5254 13

I know it's correct because I picked two up from Pug on Saturday. Thumbs up

Also, if you need them -

Bump Stop Part No. - 5033 27

Top Spring Pan Part No. - 5031 37

if theyre not too bad on price i will just get them all and leave my other legs as a complete unit to either save or sell.

ive bought some new bump stops and dust boots for these,
do the bump stops need cutting down, as there doesnt look much travel left when there on the shock??????

Don't know what Bilstien recommend but I use 60mm long progressive bumpstops that go from 75lb/inch to 350lb/inch at solid* height (which is 30mm)

*Well, given it's polyurethane, it's not exactly solid, but it goes north of 2000lb/inch in the next 10mm of compression, so...

wel i built up 1 strut and i cut 20mm off the bumpstop, but somethings telling me i shouldnt of

I asked this not so long ago as I had fitted bumpstops to this combo that were cut down one "notch", however this caused the suspension to clonk when going over heavy bumps, and it looked like it was the upper shock shaft hitting my top mounts.

As a result I fitted new full length ones and has been fine since, so in my opinion fit the standard length ones.

hmm, maybe i will take the strut back apart and fit a full size bumpstop then.
there just doesnt seem to be much travel at all left until the shock bottom reaches the bump stop.
must be like 2.5 inch

i am just about to buy some B8's and eibachs, andy + katie, would you say they are worth the money?
My aim out of having them done along with new top mounts and drop links is too gett rid of the suspensions rattles i have and obviously have a better handling car. I have just changed lower arms on both sides so pretty much all angles will be covered when i gets shocks/springs done, however i dont want to spend

You've only got ~6.25" of travel on your strut anyway, and it doesn't stop when it hits the bumpstop, it squashes it.

I fitted mine with full length bumpstops and ended up cutting them down as it looked as tho the front was sitting on them. Hope i did the right thing. Don't fancy stripping it all down again

yeah i measured it with the bumpstops in full and it left 1.5 inch of travel before they touched it, and thats before the car is on the ground, and i suppose it will sink atleast a bit.
