My rallye has failed the mot on low efficiency of the rear right brake. I have fitted a new caliper and its not long (1000 miles +) had discs and pads but its failed again. Before breaking down the system again and shelling out more tin any one got any ideas? I have kinda ruled out the master cylinder on the basis the front brake on the same ciruit is operating as it should and getting a good reading. The compensator on the rear beam is very free to move too - I know this does not rule it out though. Bloody pug rear brakes LOL

It does mate. I know it not a dead cert but its a recon one. The piston also moves freely too.

Is the replacement rear caliper the correct sized piston ? The 6/Rallye has bigger pistons - most part suppliers and garages don't know or care. I had the same trouble as you with my previous six - rear brakes failed, new discs, pads and cables fitted by a cross eyed muppet still failed, 'needs a new caliper' came the cry still failed, bed in the pads i cryed then it past - picked it up after a week of the garage/mot centre buggerin about and 300 quid and the brakes were jammed on because the clown had fitted the cables on the wrong sides LOL

So as long as the calipers all good, adjust the cables correctly (remove them from caliper, pull lever back, pump the brake pedal a couple of times, refit cables, adjust up till your assistant can feel a little resistance while rolling the car back and forth) then bed the pads in with three or four hard stops before allowing to cool.

If they still don't pass after all that then the pads and correponding areas of the carriers will need a quick tidying to allow the pad to slide cleanly.

Mine kept failing on the rears but that was both not one. Mine was the comp valve. I'm guessing it's caliper related. You tried re bleeding it?

Yeah Sad I have bled it a few times now. Even tried taking if off and holdig te caliper up higher and without the pads in, pump the pedal until the piston pops out a bit then oper the bleed nipple and put the piston back in etc

whats the disc's and pads like. is the disc glazed over. try spraying some brake cleaner on the pads and disc. an i mean really lap it on. also check the one of the hand brake cables isnt pulling more then the other. you could have a dodgy compensator. but also could be shit in the caliper.
have the caliper on the car as normal, with pads and everything as how it should be. have someone put there foot on the brake. crack the nip open. slowly pump 3 times and when there down on the 3rd pump close the nip. come off the brakes. wait, then press the pedal as hard as you can and i mean really f*ckin hard. and open the nip and close straight after the pressure has gone. that should shift anything in there that shouldnt be. then clean off with brake cleaner and test.
also im not saying you dont know how to bleed brakes just this method has worked for me.
