Had my 6 a long time now - 9 years. Driven over 100k miles - (now on 134k) - it's always had a heavy clutch.
I've been sort of hoping the clutch would give up and give me a reason to replace it, but obstinately it refuses to wear out or show any signs wear. (Despite a lap of the ring earlier in the year...)
It did get really bad once - turns out the cable had siezed up. Had that replaced, and things got back to the heavy but normal state.
My question is if I shell out on a new clutch is it going to be just as heavy as the original was - or can I get a light clutch (like other cars)?
Are there other specific parts than the clutch itself which I should get replaced?
I'm not going to give the job a go myself so any top tips on where to get it done in Southampton/Hampshire area that'll do a good job on a 6 welcomed...
Thanks

a new one is light to begin with, but goes back to heavy gradually i think.

my new one is still light 12 months on, replace the pivot arm bushes when you replace yours, mine was on about 140k when it was replaced (and was the original)

They do seem to be pretty heavy compared to many other cars, but renewing it all seems to help. If you want a chance of it staying good for long though you will need to put some thought into shielding the cable from the intense heat coming off the manifold and cooking all the lubrication out of the cable. I greased mine thoroughly before fitting, then wrapped the cable in aluminium backed fibreglass cloth and held it in place with the aluminium tape that H&V ducting contractors use to seal ventilation ducts. Mine has stayed lovely and buttery smooth for ages now, shame my engine blew up really... LOL

Not normally the clutch, Its the cross shaft/Clutch arm that goes rusty and stick's in the bushes, Replace these and the cable (OE) and you get as light as clutch as you will get in a 306, All the BE3 box's suffer from this not just the 306's

Nice one miles, though my 6 has 64k on the clock and is well light and never had a new clutch before by the looks of the receipts iv got for the car.
So when you say the cross shaft/clutch arm do you mean the bit where the cable attach's to or the shaft that goes into the gearbox or both ?

Yes the bit that goes thru the box, the bottom of the shaft tends to rust in the bottom bush

I've just had a new clutch and cable and it's now very light. Feels about the same as my mums focus which has a hydraulic clutch.
