Afternoon!..

I.m planning to change the bottom engine mount today, i've read through the FAQ on here and im still a little unsure what to do as it says something about hacksawing the original bush? I've also heard about the new mount needs to be "pressed in" using a press? But it mentions nothing about that on the FAQ? The new mount is a baker group N..

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

I just dont want to start the job, get the original bush out to find i cant get the new one in.

Cheers Whistle

You need to take the bottom mount holder plate off, which includes the drivers side drive shaft, so have a bottle of gearbox oil to refill.

You will need a huge press to fit a hard rubber mount in, find some where that will do this job before you start undoing things.

The polyurethane bushes come in two halves and are easier to fit but less durable.

No that wont work as the bush is a bugger to get started in the mount itself.

i just press the new one in and push the old one out at the same time, no need for cutting or burning the rubber out that way

At least you asked on here, another hour of taking stuff apart could have left you car-less for the week.

this maybe one of the ones you looked at, i didnt hacksaw the mount though.

this looks like it should have what you need i took the drivers side driveshaft out as its easier iirc, it has an optional step for lower engine mount Thumbs up

Driveshaft / mount

and there is this one i used last week, but i had group N's to fit, as the one shown is powerflex and comes in 2 halves, mine was slightly easier as i got miles to press it into another housing he had.

Lower Mount

removed my engine at weekend and got all the lower mount off to replace with my solid one. i assume that the metal ring is the outside of the existing mount and this is to come out? this isn't a part of the mount housing itself is it?

i mean, the actual standard mount has a metal ring on the outer edge, like a casing, and it's not just rubber - looks to be that way anyway. i blowtorched mine out but forgot about the ring, so it's within the cradle now so needs pressing out. no problem really..

I normally just tap the edge of them in with a chisel until it folds up and drops out.
