After each outing in the track car I return to the pits and leave the car running with the bonnet up. There's a slight knocking which stops after a few minutes. Is it shagged ?

If so what's my best course of action ?

Cheers , Steve

2 or 3 minutes and it stops. Oil is spot on, plugs are less than 12 months old, not checked coilpacks though.

Is it little little taps and knocks?

if so its just the engine bits like exhaust cooling down and contracting that makes the noises Wink

82K on the clock which I was told as being correct by the previous owner. If it goes bang then so be it, I'll just have to sort it as and when. I was just enquiring if there was any way other than an engine out to fix a bottom end knock.

Bearings and such can be replaced from below, it's just a bit of a pain doing all that overhead. Than again so is removing the whole engine, but as Lotek suggested, eliminate the small tests first before you start pulling her apart.
