Check the spark plugs are tight first, but probably bent valves or worn guides.

Yeah, it's pretty much guaranteed to be one or several bent valves.

You need to get the head off, stripped, and the valves and guides inspected Smile

If it's like the tapping on the last 6 engine I stripped I'm hoping it's the lifter's (Micky mouse ones) as only 2 inlet valves where ever so slightly bent.
I will find out tomorrow hopefully

Sorry if i appear thick but what would cause the valves to bend or is it just something that happens over time? Unsure

Most probably it's had a cambelt snap and has been repaired wrong causing the valve and piston to come into contact with each other.

yeah i know that causes bent valves, I was wondering if theres anything else that can cause it as these guys all seemed to know what it was straight away? I heard that 6s suffer with weak valves?

Getting stuck in the guides due to not enough clearance between the stem and the guide.

A lot of cambelts snapped due to Peugeot's optimistic replacement interval. bent valves were probably missed in a lot of engines before re-assembly. Plus if the cams rotate independantly the valves can actually hit each other and bend.

Looks like he's gone off to waste some money on a new set of tappets anyway. Roll eyes

That's not a bad price mate!

But it won't be the hydraulic lifters, from my experience I can pretty much guarantee you that.

Realistically, it's going to cost you about
