I have a phase 3 306 1.8 and I'm thinking of doing a v6 conversion. I've seen an engine on ebay with wiring loom, ecu etc with the gearbox for

why go to all that hassle? fit & tune a gti6 it'll be easier and cheaper in the long run.

and its very difficult. Call Matt at Pug1off for more information.

its nto difficult at all, you need to sort the wiring which you can get them to run with less than half a dozen wires, shorten the driveshafts and cut and strengthen the subframe to clear the diff, make the bottom engine mount in a slightly diferent place too. shorten and re-angle a downpipe to meet the exhaust manifold.

I know a guy on 205gtidrivers forum that has made a batch of top mounts to fit these engines ina 205, they'd do the trick in the 306 as well I would imagine seeign as a 306 engine drops straight onto the 205's mountings.

doddle for someone who can weld and use a soldering iron Smile

why? because it'll have far more torque than most highly tuned 16v XU engines and have an awesome engine note Big grin

It's not too bad at all, Cost wise really does depend on how far you want to go, Just make sure the engine isn;t the later D9 version or you have to swap loads of bit's over

Easiest was to tell if its a D8 or D9 is the D8 inlet manifold goes "high low high low high low" looking at it, and on the D9 the runners are the same height.

The one on eBay looks like the d8 version. I'm still not 100% as I've been told that a gti-6 conversion might be more cost effective and less hassle. And probably give me almost as good performance as the v6 due to it's weight...

a V6 306 will muller a gti6, they keep up easily in the 406 estate...

there is a slight weight penalty but thats due to a very sturdy gearbox and clutch that weighs about 20 kilos at least more, but wont shit itself with the prospect of 200 LBFT's LOL

For a Road car the V6 is fine, Yes for track work it's not ideal but you will never get oil surge like the XU engine suffer's from so it's 50/50 there
As WP has said the V6 even in the 406 is quicker than the GTi6 over the ¼, ½ and top speed
