After driving a bit enthusiastically earlier this morning I got home and hit the 30mph zone. After a while doing 30 I heard a strange loud metalic sqeaking noise as I drove along, similar to the sound when your pads are worn.

I need to change the pads anyway but the noise was happening when I was driving, when I braked it stopped. It sounded like it was comming from the drivers side front wheel.

Seized caliper maybe? How can I check to see if this is the case?

Cheers.

Drive on the motorway without braking. Stop at services or at a junction and feel if one wheel is hotter than the rest.

Just came back from a run up a fairly lengthy bypass. Parked at Macdonalds and all four wheels seem to be fine.

Took it back again, braking in town seems good, the sound didn't come back?

Checked wheels when I got home and again, not overly hot at all, no overheating, all seem the same temp.

You could have got a small stone trapped that has now gone.

Ok, cheers Rudolf.

I'm getting the pads and rear discs changed soon, so will have them do a once over anyway.

Thanks.
