Are the final drive housings interchangeable?

as i have one with a crack in it!

ideal, did notice the gti6 has 2 locating lugs instead of 1 like the previous gearboxes though. never miond decent gasket sealer and all up tight, Thanks

I would be careful swapping these.

They are line-bored and counter-bored to house the diff bearings as one assembly, like a head is line-bored for the cams, or a block is line bored for the crank.

Using separate halves from 2 different boxes could result in premature diff bearing failure, or improper meshing of the teeth on the crown wheel/pinion.

ok, i did think that, but with the interchangeable bearings which as you'll agree are much more substantial tham main or big end bearings, im hoping that providing the bearings are tight and shimmed up correctly and that it sits tight and flush with no leaks it'll be ok. i guess if its out of line the first thing to fail will be the diff seals as they will be the softest part and most easily pushed out of shape.

But i'll keep a very close eye on whats going on with it,

Yeah, the bearings float in the steel outer races, which are a lot stronger than shells etc.

It should be fine, most people don't bother shimming the bearings or putting some engineer's blue on the teeth to check the CWP mesh correctly, but do this and i'm sure everything will be in order.

There is around 6 different design's of Diff cover, All with little differance's.
Most can be swaped over thou
