well ive now finished the charger project which has dragged on now for sometime. the car has been off the road since the end of april. i picked it up from the bodyshop and stuck in in the work car park while accumulating the rest of the parts for the build. only problem with this is the car park is terrible for dust and when the wind blows (most days!) its like the sahara. so you can imagine what condition the paintwork was in after 3 months being static without a wash. so sat morning i broke out the cleaning goodies. some old favourites and some new items which i was pretty excited about. id say im done with the exterior now. undecided on the rear badges so just stuck the gti-6 on for now. (suggestions welcome)
the only crime here being a 5mp camera phone which doesnt represent just how much this car shines. its bloody ridiculous. enjoy Cool

tools of the trade

washed/clayed/washed again/megs paint cleaner.

no polish yet! just a bit of scratchX on a few light swirls

+ megs step2 polish/poorboys black hole glaze

and some collinite wax to lock it all in

didnt get chance to put the front back on, will add some more pics later on.

freshly 'furbed cyclones + wilwoods really look sexy!

Devil

one of my faves

as you prob can tell ive got a bit of a paint fetish. if anyones in the area with a good camera pm me. would be nice to get some proper snaps of it when it gives off the most amazing reflections.Big grin

i quite like it at the moment. front end looks a little bare in the pics but i looked at it today parked up with it all together and it looks really good. might stick them on one day but will have to buy some more as i sold my set! besides its one of the only differences between our cars. cant have you nagging me all the time. LOL

not sure about no grill. may try and find something with better airflow though. as for the ride height. i caught a lump in the road today, only doing 15 or so but i think it was the pipe. not sure whther to raise the front to match the rear. bit scared i'll need the welder on speed dial for the boost piping!

these were the new additions i bought and i was very surprised at how good they were. firstly the bug squash is easily the best bug/tar remover ive ever seen or used.
id rave all day about the black hole glaze. nice deep wet shine and never used a product that comes off easier than it goes on!
and id highly recommend a drying towel from poorboys.
it easily beats the comp. drying cars is my most hated job as water gets everywhere. but this makes it quick and easy. didnt have to wring it out once and it dried the whole car very easily. Thumbs up

hi. id say if you've got a lot of swirls and they are quite heavy the scratchX isnt the best stuff. its good on very light markings. i have a go with something like poorboys swirl remover. they do 3 different grades depending on the condition of your paint. Smile

things like scratchX are very light abrasives so they dont really cut into the paint much so you can be pretty heavy handed with them. if you've got a lot of swirls and they're fairly obvious id get something that will cut into the surface a little more. otherwise your arms are gonna hurt!LOL

ive never used them so prob need researching but at a guess i reckon they are graded like compounds or wet/dry paper. get a light one if you're confident it'll deal with the swirls. or buy all and work from heaviest to lightest.
