The did 4WD, 6 speed, turbo versions of both though and that's the same running gear as mine, without the 4WD Cool

IIRC they were a C20XE as standard but they only made about 500 of them most of them are on a 1988 E plate

There are some really gash drop top versions too.

Sorry Ed, but I can't get over it being a mk2. They were soooo very shit as standard cars, even with the coscast valver in. I'm sure yours will go like stink but it should be a mk1 shell Wink

LOL

Each to their own but the GTEs were not 'shit' by any means. Standard suspension wasn't brilliant but that was easily changed and then they were very good cars, IMO of course Wink

Yes they were trust me. I am more than old enough to know this and to have driven plenty ok? LOL

My point exactly Ed, unless you did something half decent to the suspension then they really didn't handle. How they got it so wrong after the sublime handling on the mk1 i'll never know. Then again they followed with the mk3, another level of shitness all over again. Laugh my ass off

Basically back in the day you took a mk1 GTE, and put in a valver or turbo engine and brakes. Group A coilovers and jobs a good 'un. If you were really lucky you could find a proper works shell, but I've only ever seen one of those. Had a 300BHp 6 speed but still FWD. Altered my perception of reality a bit at the time. Jesus it was quick! Smile

More pics from today for your amusement/interest:

Lights and oil cooler fitted

And intercooler, bit tight for space behind there

Bumper fits after some modifications with a hacksaw Whistle

All fits together in the end

Am now unsure about the quads, may leave the standard lights in.....

Laugh my ass off

Yeah, been in a dusty garage for a very long time. When It's all finished it'll get a nice polish and touch up some of the imperfections on the bodywork.

Fair enough, his was originally purple pearl? Get on vauxsport too. Really good advice particularly on tuning. What spec engine are you going for?

Dont think its his then, as the guy I bought it off had done tarmac rallying in it, its originally an 8v shell, not a 16v. For some reason when he sprayed it white he only did the outside Roll eyes

The ECU already has an EVO 5 chip in it. Gonna aim for ~270bhp and 270lb/ft of torque as it is a trackcar, not a drag car so it needs to be useable power. Getting it set up on an HKS boost controller too so will have 3 settings on it dependant on circuit and weather. Has a Quaiffe LSD on it and will be running R888s, Koni suspension and V6 Vectra brakes. Car itself shouldn't weigh much more than 800kgs so it should be a bit of a rocket ship Superman

Good spec there mate. Dont be too tempted to chase power with track cars. Costs never seem to outweigh the benifits.

I had a xe'd nova on tb's with a quaife box and diff. Proper little wepon. Had to sell up as something practicle was required lol
