Well thats the idea behind this project. To provide as much info as possible on fitting bike bodies on the XU engine.
I know there are many debates about that but its good to have the picture of the procces and the possitives and negatives of it. The dyno will show if its worth the trouble.

Very nice project, funnily enough id been wondering last week how effective the throttle bodies/standard ECU combination would work. I will look forward to the results.

Only thing I maybe would have done would be having some flanges tig welded onto the bodies and manifold and bolting them together, as from what i know the silicone couplers arent great for flow.

They're fine for flow, the problem is they damp the induction pulses, which is what you are using for a bit of extra cylinder filling if the induction lengths are right.

There is a number of things to do to get everything to work better. What i do is trying to give the budget way of doing things. Bike bodies on the XU engine has been debated many times here but it was not clear what's involved to make them work or even better if its worth it. There is a number of things that i will change after the car is up and running but for the moment i am trying to see if it works on the minimum budget available.

So far money wise:

Bodies: Anything from 100- 250 will do (mine where 140)
Spare mani 50 ( Everything i do has to be reversible god forbits if something goes wrong)
High pressure hose 5 (you can do with Samco or simmilar but there is no point)
Eight clamps 10
Treated wire and bolts 2
A botle of sillicone 5
And least but essential in order to work
Custom plenum for the ICV and MAP 50
The above will be available to all of if anyone needs upon request after i finish and its proven that it works
Finnaly cost of remap on RR
All the above in GBP

Thats basically all you need and i am not adding the cost of air filter as there are many choices out there.

As you can see i am trying to keep money to the minimum.

Yanni.

I know your busy and all but this is very intersting. Lol. Sorry.

The setup i have was the one bought off whiterallye its all ready to bolt on but i will need that custom plenum you mentioned. I will try and find the link a bit later for these bodies i bought, could you let me know if i need to do anything of this what you said?

I wont need to do the manifold because there is a custom made one on there to fit to me car.

Cheers mate

Hello hello boys and girls.

I know my thread was dead for some time now but work keept me very busy really sorry about that...

Anyway back on track now. I have finnaly got my hands around the plenum i was talking about. At the end i made it my self so dont shoot me for any inperfections. I made it from brass wire and weld it with high quallity silver wire for more strenght. I went this way cos aluminum or steel was to tricky to fabricate at this stage.
I know you all like shiney things so there it is.

On one side is the plate for the Stepper and on the other is the plate for the Map. While there i made the bracket for the throttle cable and gave it a first polish. I know the hole for the cable is not done yet!!!
After the final pollish it will be srayed with clear coat varnish to maintain the nice shiney looks.
Anyway the idea of the plenum is to maintain the Map and Stepper and i am just about to show you how.

I believe by now you get the idea. In this setup you can get away and save your money as you dont have to spend more on an aftermarket ECU. The standard ECU will read all the sensors as it should so after fittment you will need only a remap to adjust the air/fuel mixture as it will run lean.

By now the bodies are complete so i have a fixed date to fit these on Monday!!! I wanted to do this tomorow but i have a very well known VIP member of this forum here (in Greece) and he is leaving on Monday morning so after i drop him off to the airport these are going in.

I also made a nice blank for the center vents to host the oil presure gauge and air/fuel meter that i am fitting at the same time.

The gauges you see came of my old Audi and used them only to cut the holes. There NOT satying in there.

Comments are welcome.

Yanni.

So is the plenum fitted into where the injectors were on the bodies and are you fitting the 306 injector rail into the manifold as per standard?

i like the idea, good work.

be interesting to se if theres any difference in spending a few thou on some bodies or a home brew setup.

Something tells me there will be nothing in it, you seem to have done your research. Cool

I dont know if i am the reason for driving the prices up on second hand bodies but for some time now i just wanted to give it a go. I know there are many out there that want bodies on them engines and the price just holds them back. I did a lot of search and research around that and i still dont see why it shouldn't work. For less than 400Gbp you get a nice setup that all it needs its a remap that you would pay anyway even if you use far more expensive solutions.
On Monday i will know for sure if and how well it works and you will get a full feed back.

Two thing more to mention:

First for thoose (mainly Xsara owners) that use the late XU10J4RS multiplex engines (like me) you can get away even without a remap. I did a lot of reasearch and chances are that you dont need one. The late multiplex ECU has the ability to flex and adapt its function's around the bodies giving optimal air/fuel mixture without a remap!!! Citroes says it is possible we just have to wait and see.

Second the plenum for thoose interested will be around 150 to 170 pounts once my project is finished and i will make a better one to see this week. These will be available to order upon demand and delivered as blanks to work on differend setups.

Please dont send me mails JUST wet as i will start a thread on the For Sale section very soon to gauge interest.

And another thing to say. Funds are in my pocket now so i took the desision to go all the way and soon very soon i will be ordering from Fastcarspares the Xsara WRC Kit-car body kit!!! After Birks 306 it seems that i can resist the thought LOL

Yanni.
