Ok.. So the missis is buying me in a sub for my birthday, now I put quite a bit of junk in my boot and I couldnt be having the cone pushed in by the goods in transit. So I had the idea of buying a sub grill. After looking for about 3 seconds and thinking these are all shit, I rang my old man and said "get me some perspex" which he did. I then set about doing what I do and designed myself one.

Here is the design I came up with

Printed out

Cut out and stuck on to the perspex

Then I took a drill and a coping saw to it and began chopping out the unwanted bits...

Next was to drill some pilot holes ready for the bigger hole saw bit to go through.. after testing the bigger bit on a offcut it just ripped the perspex up and cracked it.. so this was the way forward.

Then with the hole saw...

Tidyed it up a little with various shapes of files..

And finally peeled off the drawing. Needs a bit of TLC in places to bring it up to scratch and needs a good polish up, but then again its only to protect my sub cone from being damaged. And best of all it was FREE!!!!

All in all im quite happy with it.. it probably took me a day to make all in all, but its saved me a bit of money and Like the way it looks. Originally I had the idea of finnishing the edges in red but I think ill just leave it the way it is.

Very inventive, like the look of that. What was the programme you used to draw up the template?

Looks great but you're going to reduce the sound output with this arrangement. Normally grills four loudspeakers cover about 50% of the speaker surface while yours should be a lot more. Maybe you can reduce this effect by placing spacers between the cover and the speaker. You'll may also experience some vibrations(ounds) depending on the thickness of the material you used and how you mount/damp it.

Cheers for the comments boys!

The template was drawin in AutoCAD yes..

I do intend to mount it proud of the sub, possibly by a good inch or so, as I said its only to stop things hitting the cone, ill probably get some inch long posts made up and and sandwich a couple of rubber washers in between 2 standard washers to help prevent viabration.

i tried for ages to find the right rubber washers for my sub grill. i found some concrete fixing sets at work once. perfect.

These

you can chop them down to whatever length you want the grill away from the mount point.

After seeing the design I thought you would be using some sort of CNC or Laser cutter. Looks like a lot of work but a nice finish, and unique

If you could add some LED's it would glow

A bit of a delay in this post.. However I finally got round to mounting the grill to the sub.. Ended up using some concrete plugs cut down and some cup washers for the screws to sit in.. does the job quite nicly if you ask me!

Ill post up some decent quality pics soon..
