This has been a great read mate. Really good for me to see as i am putting a new engine in my car starting on friday. Not going to quite your extreme, but this all fasinates me. Keep it all up mate really looking forward to the pic of it all back in and running

i think mine was quite brown too when it came out as well. but i used a mildly acidic cleaner that just melted the stains away...

i replaced all the injector seals. the old ones were good, but there's no point coming this far and leaving them out.

Excellent work going on hereThumbs up . Its nice to see the differences between the 6 angine and the rallye - suprised how much gubbins were removed on the rallye models. Looks like you were fortunate with the oil cooler as well

Wow you have a garage in London bit of a rariety Big grin

Good thread though, it's good to see someone strip down and engine and rebuild it.

I had a S16 engine I stripped with the intention of rebuilding, but so many things were f*cked. Like massive corrosion in one of the bores Sad

i reaplced the bottom ball joints and drop links in the whole scheme of things, as i broke the old ones... i've been reliably informed that lemforder are a very good brand, i got them from GSF

i'm using titan oil initiallly as i get it on the cheap. just gonna break the eninge in with it - then i'm switching to mobil 10w40.

well i got the engine in and subframe on - everything went back fairly easily - just lining everything up was the hardest part. it was then ready to be started!
