HI guys and girls,

my gti6 engine has a loud top end tap when hot, i have changed the followers thinking that should solve the problem but it still gets the same problem when its hot, has anyone else come across this problem, or can anyone suggest a remedy for it?

oil pressure is good on the bottom end, - 60 psi at idle 100 when revving, and the oil is fresh.

What filter are you using?

Oh, and have you checked the tightness of your Spark plugs? If you have a torque wrench that you are sure is not out of sync, you can trying checking the tightness with that.

Thread resurrection,

I'm having the same problem with my 6, motor sounds perfect until the oil temp gets to about 80 then the noise starts quietly then increases in volume until the car is at operating temp, it doesn't get any louder when the oil temp goes up over 90 while sitting in traffic.
I changed the oil and it made no difference (unknown oil from previous owner to Castrol by me).
It sounds more like a dull tok noise on mine rather than a tap or tick.
Can't hear the noise over about 2000rpm, it seems to blend away.
I haven't checked the spark plugs yet either

As said could be loose spark plugs, injectors or previous interference between pistons and valve(s).

Had a similar problem when trying some mobil oil 10/40 last summer. If its an older engine might also be worth trying some slightly thicker oil

hmm, I'd try some total quartz 4000 or 7000 in there, I don't think pug engines like magnatec much.

Most likely a loose spark plug - usually the one closest to the cambelt.
