Hello everybody,

it's my first post here, sorry for my poor english, but let's try...

I'm doing some modifications on my 97' ZX 16v, here in Brazil it's called Dakar.

I'm chasing pure performance, it explain the turbo choice

this is like it was, 6 months ago

the first step was the exhaust manifold, made in stainless steel, in order to use a big turbo we decided to fit the turbo in the battery's
original location.

due to manifold's size it is divided in 2 parts, easy maintenance too.

this was the firt stage of the project, the worst, 4 months to conclude,

next step: front mount intercooler, 3" pipes, 3" downpipe, 3" exhaust

http://www.belquip.com/produto/1043

then the car finally was going to my mechanic.

we passed a lot of night working on the car, new seals, bearing, belts, rings, oil pump, water pump, etc... changing everyhing possible in order to garantee a lit bit more of security.

I didn't know yet, but there was a lot of mistakes on the exhaust manifold, it was the main reason of my problems,

firt, i couldn't use the water pipe localizated on the back side of the engine, the pipe that circulates water trough thermostatic valve, i needed to isolate that pipe and the litle gate on the radiator, eliminating the thermostatic valve.

second, the wastegate was too close of the water entrance, we need to make a new one, we used the opel vectra's flange.

when the engine was opened and dismantled we tryed to upgrade every single details, as head's flow, manifold's flow, more press on the oil sump, etc...

some pics of the extense work.

we done all the turbo work of pass new fuel lines, turbo oil catch and return, air boost / vacum lines, etc

a ugraded fuel pump fitted in tank fills an external surge tank and from this surge 2 external fuel pumps sends the alcool to the engine.

fuel press is regulated by a HPI regulator, increases the fuel press acording manifold's boost.
(red one near the right headlamp)

the car uses a alfa 164's oil radiator, fitted on the foglight housing.

on the suspension i'm using eibach springs, upgrades original shock (40%+ harder), superior town sway bar, P.U inferior.
Here in Brazil we don't have any upgrade to our car, so we need to develop EVERYTHING!

EBC TGD Brakes discs, Fiat Marea Turbo's EBC yellow stuff pads (perfect mount, bigger contact area) aeroquip lines, DOT 5.1 fluid.

ceramic clutch, 1200 lbs to support the new torque

well, this is my little project, it's not ready, this we i'm going to make a dyno run to calibrates the car. using perfect power smt6

this is how the car is actually,

when i remember more details i'll report here, any questions i'll try to explain!

Can't wait to take a ride on it!
Sleeper-ish...and maybe one day it'll be the basis of my Xsara VTS (for the European Members, I'm another Brazilian dude who has a XU10J4RS). This Dakar was "well-born" one that already used to rock. Now, it'll be a Heavy Metal Track/Street car.
Congratulatons on it...and I'm quite sure during these months, you were abso-f*cking-lutely wishing to see you bloody project working...STRONGLY!
Any help, you know I'd go give a support.

judging by the size of that turbo this isn't going to be a low boost conversion, are you fitting forged pistons and rods?
if not i wouldn't expect it to run for very long

Hmm I was just wondering what rods and pistons are being used ? surely you would of had to use low comp forged pistons and rods ??

the turbo is a specific Garret
.50/.70
axles/rotors .60

the intention is a big turbo to get boost only at high RPMS, it's better to put the power on the road and i like more progressive cars, the intention is rev 8000RPMs

for this stage it's everything stock, now will be a basic car, 0,7 bar, i want to develop the car in the track, more boost with this suspension/transmission setup will worse the track performance.

i'm trying to import a Quaife, just after after install Quaife and R888 that i will think in upgrade the torque/power.

the car actually is "driveable" just with a inicial tunning in the HPI fuel regulator, this week my mechanic with do a fine chip tunning in the DYNOJET, he garantee that it will be enough to get to perfection.

if we can't tune the car than we will install the SMT-6!

so your running low boost with that turbo? surely a smaller turbo which spools up quicker would be far more progressive and more driveable? the turbo lag on that must be immense!

How much power are you planning to run? around 600bhp at a guess?

And you say you are going to run standard internals but on low boost, even so i blew apart uprated wossner conrods with just 400bhp, imagine what you will do with this lol.

Good luck to you mate

I am planning around 350whp, i think it's the structure limit, more then this i'll need to make big changes in suspension/ structure and gearbox.

DaLuz offer us a XU forged KIT, IAPEL piston and TFC rods, if a change my mind this will be internal...

i agree with you, but we don't have more than 20 GTIs in brazil, and the ZX is very cheap, i like ZX because it is very ugly and squared, everybody gets surprised when tries to chase hehehe

I don't know the paint name, the code is ETWER
