Owner Rick_RallyeYear of registration 1999 T Reg Year you bought the car May 2004 Mileage when bought 28,000 miles Current mileage 39,000 miles Paint colour Cherry Red What made you buy this car? I bought a nearly new Saxo VTS that I was absolutely in love with, and crashed it after 3 months. I needed to buy something cheaper but didn't want to take a step back so I bought a slightly older Cat D 106 GTi. After the repair bills and realising the air-bag didn't work I didn't feel comfortable with the car any more, so needed a suitable replacement. A friend had recently bought a 306 DT and I was very impressed with the solid ride compared to my 106, so I thought I'd take a look at a GTi 6. A quick look through Auto Trader revealed a very cheap and low mileage Rallye, so I went to look at it. Went out for a test drive and I was instantly in love. Did a HPi check and it was Cat C having fallen out of love with accident damage cars I decided to look around for another, but I'd definitely set my mind on a Rallye ![]() Found this one at 28k advertised for £5,950, went to see it and it was in absolutely lush condition compared to the other one I saw. A really careful owner who did 18k miles in 4 years. Lowered the price a little so I could get the cambelt done and it found a new home in my hands ![]() Modifications (Exterior) Clear indicators Modifications (Interior) Alpine 9812RB Head Unit, Road Angel and Sparco Pedals Modifications (Performance) Scorpion Exhaust and Devil Decat, K&N induction kit, Extra Air Feed from Fog Light, EBC Greenstuff Pads, NGK Iridium Plugs, Earthing Kit, Bridgestone RE720 205/50/R15 tyres |
Best moment? Driving the car home for the first time. Travelled about 2 hours to get it with a mate and we had a little play on the way back. The first time I took the car to 6500 rpm absolutely filled me with excitement. We stopped on the way back at the services to fill up and grab a coffee and I was just in absolute awe of the car. The Cherry Red colour suited the car fantastically and it really did look as good as it performed. I'll never forget that night, and the next day actually. That whole week in fact. Hang on, I still look for excuses to drive it 8 months later ![]() Worst moment? After owning it for a month or so I took it round a corner in the rain far too fast and the Pirelli P6000's let go. Fish tailed it round this corner and, miraculously didn't hit the curb on the opposite side. Worst moment but reassured me a little that it handled well enough to control a slide. Oh and when I got a radiator leak at Santa Pod and the hassle I had sourcing and fitting the correct radiator, that wasn't great either | |
